Zodiac

Saw Zodiac, David Fincher’s thriller about the real-life serial killer who was never found. It was a long, long film, but I was rapt throughout, aware it had gone on for ages (and that friends seeing it with me were bored) but enjoying it all. It was no Se7en, but it was very different – that’s a slick, exaggerated thriller, while this was the same concept, as it is in real life. Things aren’t perfectly-orchestrated, or insanely clever. They’re messy and confusing and red tape gets in the way. With effective performances from Jake Gyllenhall and Mark Ruffalo and an appropriately exaggerated one from Robert Downey Jr., it was slow, intricate, intimate…and fascinatingly real. I enjoyed it – but wouldn’t sit through it again.
