Ali G Indahouse

I watched Ali G Indahouse tonight. While I have to say that while watching Da Ali G Show, Ali G was by far the funniest character while Borat (and, later, Bruno) were amusing much more sporadically, it's quite right that the Borat movie will be remembered as a far superior piece of work than this movie - because, again, Sasha Baron Cohen's at his best when interacting with real people. That's why Ali G was genius; people didn't know how to handle this send-up of youth culture that was just believable enough for them to have to take him seriously. Just making a film about how stupid he is, without the added element of anyone actually believing it, totally ruins any satirical bite. Charles Dance and Michael Gambon's careers took heavy hits here. Plus, of course, Ali G is very much a British story for British people. Borat is accessible to Americans too, even while attacking them. Ali G Indahouse is just a string of unfunny jokes hung on a rotten plot.
